Welcome to CSUN Department of History. If you are a new history student, especially Freshman or Junior (both CSUN & Transfer Juniors), please sign up for advisement. Freshman students should also sign up for advisement with EOP--if you have been advised by EOP and you are a history major, you should sign up for advisement at least by the end of your sophomore year--and I encourage you to come see me in your freshman semester, as soon as possible.
If you are interested in a single-subject credential, you should also sign-up for advisement with Professor Juarez Dappe, also in the history department, and you should get advisement early.
I look forward to meeting you--also, note below that during the regular school year, there are "drop-in" hours designed for problems that require immediate attention. If you have a problem, please "drop-in" and if you call the office earlier in the day, we will have your DPR prepared.
If you are a transfer student, please note that CSUN's drop deadlines are firm, and the LAST DAY TO ADD/ DROP a class is three week into the term. I emphasize this especially for transfer students because at many Junior Colleges students are able to change schedules late in the term. This is not the case here, so if issues are likely to interfere with your schooling or you want to change your schedule, please look ahead.

Please also be advised that if you are a probation student, you may have a hold on your registration, and if this is the case, you need to make an appointment to see me so I can release the hold in a timely fashion. Also, as most of you know by now, sign up for the Upper Division Writing Proficiency Examination (UDWPE) before 75 units (website: http://www.csun.edu/~udwpe1/). You will have a hold on your registration if you do not take this exam in time, so watch for the test dates and be sure to sign up early. New "star" transfer students often have holds, too.
I will expect to see you as a Freshman/ Sophomore if you wish to change your major to history or to declare a minor; as a Junior for upper division advisement; and to apply for graduation (July for the following Spring, March for the following Fall). The paperwork that we fill out for graduation is for your Diploma, and again, we should fill out these forms a year prior to your expected graduation. Regarding the ceremony, see the Student Affairs website ( http://www.csun.edu/commencement/) and look for important deadlines in March, when there are usually two days of "Gradfest" and sign-up deadlines.
So plan ahead and try to avoid advisement in the first or last weeks of the semester when it is especially busy. If you can't make an appointment, please call the office so we can make room for someone else. If you have any questions, please stop by.
